The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD, you shall preserve them from this generation for ever.
Psalm 12:6-7
Deo gratias! A generation of Catholic leaders is now passing, a generation who thought that they could improve on the words of the Lord by changing the consecration at Mass from our Lord's words (recorded in Matthew 26:28 and Luke 22:20) to something more to their liking.
The consecration! The most sacred moment in our most sacred act of worship, and even this was not safe from the self-styled reformers who scorned what they had inherited and seemed successful for a time in alienating Catholics from the practices and beliefs of the generations who preceded them in the Faith.
But all winters pass. Thank God for our Pope, who had to order our bishops to accept an accurate translation of the Mass. Thank God for the thirst for holiness that remained in many Catholic hearts. The grace of God will not be held back. We have not been wholly severed from our roots. The breach will be healed and the Church renewed.
